The Road Trip - Days One and Two
This is a tale about two guys who went on a huge road trip across the western United States. Oh yeah, and there was a girl involved. But alas, though she was very cute, she was only there long enough for dramatic effect.
All of the pictures herein have been reduced in size by 66%, for ease of downloading. They have also been compressed by 10%, so the quality is not the best it could be. It's most noticeable in pictures of sunsets or anything with a broad spectrum of colors. If you want the full size picture for any of these, email me here.
Tuesday, April 23, 2002:
Jeremy and Steve set out from Tulsa, OK on a clear afternoon. Steve took a total of 761pictures, but he has chosen some of the better ones, that your journey may be shorter than theirs. Now on to the good stuff.
Wednesday, April 24:
They arrived at the Grand Canyon in time to see the sunrise. It was then that Steve realized the one thing that he had forgotten to pack, a coat. His sweatshirt was entirely inadequate for the cold wind that swirled around the top of the canyon as they waited for day to break.
As the sun rose, the temperature also rose, to perhaps a balmy 40 degrees. Steve almost started to sweat.
After the sun was high enough that they could see the Canyon in all of it's glory, Jeremy and Steve decided that it was time to move on. Upon their return to the car, Jeremy remembered that he had another coat in the trunk. They both had a good laugh about that. They continued west, towards Las Vegas, stopping briefly at Hoover Dam.
There was a dam tour, but they decided to pass. Continuing on, they arrived at Las Vegas in the afternoon. Jeremy, a seasoned veteran of Sin City, took Steve on a tour of the ritzy hotels. You know, the ones with classier sin.
This particular hotel had a ceiling that was painted like the sky, and statues that were not statues at all, but they were people that looked like statues. They held their statuesque poses for several minutes before becoming a different statue.
Another hotel had animal exhibits. There was a tiger pacing in it's pen, and also a few lions that rested on the Plexiglas tunnel that went through their domain.
In Caesar's Palace, Steve took a fancy to a woman dressed as Cleopatra, escorted by Caesar himself. Steve thought that her dress was quite nice, but questioned her judgment in choosing tanning attire.
A picture of the strip at night was quite nice, but Steve was much more proud of getting his picture taken with a real Las Vegas showgirl.
And so Jeremy and Steve rested, and then it was time for more driving.
