Day 7 - Friday October 1st
New York City, NY
My oldest friend Josh Cheatham lives in New
Jersey, and he was gracious enough to put me up for a few nights and
show me around Manhattan. We walked EVERYWHERE in the city.
He said that he had never seen so much of the city in so short a
time.
My first New York subway stop, Penn Station.

The next few pictures were taken from the top of the Empire State
Building. The first picture shows the Statue of Liberty in the
top right corner. Ellis Island is just to the right of the
statue.
If you look closely, you can see a tall building under
construction in the middle, to the left of a pyramid-topped
building. The pyramid building is part of the World Financial
Center, and it is right next to where the World Trade Center was.
Josh said that the tops of the twin towers were well above the
horizon from this view.

This is looking back the other way. The large patch of trees
you can see is Central Park. The smaller patch of trees in the
foreground is Bryant Park.

This picture was taken looking back towards the Empire State
Building from Bryant Park.

Grand Central Station. I took a few pictures with some long
exposures to try to show the hustle and bustle. The people
that you can see clearly are the only ones that were standing still
for 10 seconds.

This is Josh, standing in front of a church, I don't recall the name
of it.

Rockefeller Center

This was a cool sculpture. It was a pole that stuck out of the
ground at an angle, and it had realistic figures of people walking
on it, as well as on the ground. I laid on my back to get this
picture.

Times Square - the first night
This strange contraption is peddled
like a bicycle, but with 6 people peddling and 1 person steering.

A man walking down the street was making quite a stir, so we went to
check it out. He had a snake wrapped around him, and a girl
that was with him had a parrot. I held up my camera to take a
picture, and he had the audacity to hold his hand up in front of the
lens. "Wait a moment, we charge for getting your picture taken
with us", he said. So I let him get a few steps down the
sidewalk and then took his picture.
