For my big road trip this year I decided to go
to southern California. As it happens, my friend Mason was
also getting married in L.A. on Memorial Day, so I thought it would
be a perfect time for my vacation.
Day 1 - Thursday May 26th
Not much but driving. Here is the route
that I took for the trip.
Day 2 - Friday May 27th
Petrified Forest National Park -
This is a beautiful park that you can see in only a few hours.
I got a picture of a cool rainbow-colored lizard and some other
stuff too. The last picture is something that is common in
Arizona and Utah, and that is a "wash". They name dry river
beds like the rest of the world names rivers and creeks.
You'll see a sign for "Miller's Wash" or something like that, and
then you'll drive over...nothing. Weird.

Meteor Crater Arizona
- This is kind of cool to see...once...for about five minutes...if
you have an extra $12. Since it is on private land, my
National Parks Pass didn't do me any good. The place has a
museum, a movie with some kind of simulation (I didn't stick around
for that because it seems pretty obvious to me what happened!), and
a gift shop, but it very much has the feel of something you would
see advertised as "See the world's largest FOLDING CHAIR!" or
something like that.
Anyway, it's the largest well-preserved meteor
crater in the world. It's 500 feet deep and 4000 feet across.
The size is quite impressive, and in fact it is so big that my wide
angle lens wouldn't take it all in. The other picture is just
some random tourists, but I thought it was a cool shot.
